Ontario to shut down 2000 MW of coal - Tomorrow!

Tomorrow Ontario can celebrate a major milestone in the fight against
climate change as they move to replace dirty coal with renewable energy.
Premier McGuinty is making good on his promise to shut down 2000 MW of
coal by October of 2010 as part of the larger plan to completely phase
out coal by 2014. This is a welcome step in the right direction and
further proof that Provinces can, and are taking the lead in the race to
a clean energy future in Canada.

"A coal-free Ontario will reduce air pollution and these closures Friday
bring us that much closer to replacing coal-fired generation by 2014.
Ontario will be one of the first jurisdictions in the world to move from
a past of dirty coal generation to a future of clean energy."

- Ontario Minister of Energy Brad Duguid in an email to Reuters.
