Over many years I've been pulling single threads away from a toxic tapistry before us, looking to undo the damages that are planned to be done but not yet manifested.
When I heard President Obama speak on CBC about MMS, it pointed me to just the right thread. I tugged at this one and found something extraordinary. Check it out. It was shared with provincial and federal ministries as well as CBC and CTV staff.

Thursday that the head of the U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS), which is responsible for offshore drilling, had resigned and President Obama criticized the agency stating that it was working as both a promoter and regulator of mineral resources and he clearly stated they must no longer be allowed to do this. The president stated they will become two separate agencies. This was featured on CBC news on May 27th.
I want to raise the issue that currently it appears that the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is promoting and regulating fossil fuels in Ontario.
The evidence on this matter can be seen on the following website:
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/OGSR/2ColumnSubPage/STEL02_167105.html
This website features the following passages:
Crude oil and natural gas in Ontario has been discovered in commercial quantities in a total of over 300 separate "pools".
It is estimated that the remaining undiscovered resources of natural gas in the province are approximately 36 billion cubic meters compared to cumulative production of 35.6 billion cubic metres to the end of 2006. This means, Ontario has potential natural gas resources equal to what has already been recovered over the years. Most of the remaining natural gas lies on Crown land under Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron.
Oil and natural gas does a lot more than simply provide fuel for our cars and trucks, keep our homes and offices comfortable, and power our industries. Petrochemicals derived from crude oil and natural gas are used in making thousands of products that make our lives easier, and in many cases, help us live better and longer lives.
>From lipstick to aspirin and diapers to roller blades, petrochemicals play a vital part in daily living. The houses we live in, and the factories and office buildings we work in, are all made with petroleum products. Canada’s largest petrochemical complex is located in the Sarnia area.
Find out more about petroleum products in construction and other interesting petroleum facts at the Discovery Education Centre website.
(The link to the Discovery Education Centre website is provided at the bottom of the MNR's web site noted above.)
If one actually clicks on the term the "Discovery Education Centre" they will see that the link ends up at a website called Discovery Drilling Funds, a firm in Alberta. The site shows how to secure funds for drilling operations and it provides investor information. In fact the website's URL is http://www.drillingfunds.com/petroleum.html
This in my view represents a blatant conflict of interest the same as the MMS. I personally don't want to see my tax payer dollars promoting the use of fossil fuels by the same regulators who issue permits nor do I want my Ontario tax payer dollars be used to promote the Discovery Drilling Funds.
If you do a google search for the term: "Discovery Education Centre." You won't FIND IT because it is either not on line or it simply does not exist. Please note the term is very easy to confuse with "Discovery Education" which is a division of Discovery Communications, LLC and the producers of the Discovery Channel etc.
So WHY would the Ontario MNR create a link to the the Discovery Education Centre that actually ends up at Discovery Drilling funds?
In my view it appears the Ontario MNR are acting as promoters and regulators of fossil fuels in Ontario. If this is the case it should not continue. As a concerned citizen I would like to formally request an investigation into this matter ASAP.
I would like to know in writing if MNR agencies in other provinces are giving references to the Discovery Drilling Fund or the Discovery Education Centre on their websites.
Thank you kindly for your time.
