Hi folks
Being a participant at the OMB is fairly easy .
1. Show up the first day of the hearing, Monday 11am at Waterloo Council Chambers and simply state you'd like to be a participant. That part is manditory.
2. If you wish to voice concerns personal appearances are preferred because it allows others to ask questions but written comments are acceptable too. Unlike party members, participants don't even have to attend the hearings after registration. The chair will inform you when it is time to present your concerns if you wish to present in person. Normally it's on the last day of the hearing.
The only condition set is that the issues are relevant to the issues of the current appeal.
3. The chair may ask you to provide a particpant statement. That's just a document with your name, contact info and a brief write up about who you are or what group you work with, your expertise or simply a statement as to why your interested in the matter at hand.
Mention what issue you'd like to address and provide a brief comment on what your views are. It's basically like a council speech process.
The topics I know are being addressed involve the developers seeking changes to the migratory bird act restricting construction activy from May 1st to July 15. Apparently the city and regional times vary so clairity is needed as to which one applies.
The developers are also seeking changes because Wilmot LIne is no longer going to be used as an access road from Erb Street. The Columbia Road extention is enough to service the Greyerbiehl area and when the golf course lands free up they will put the Erb street connection through the Golf Course and expand to the north.
Greyerbiehl is slated to be developed starting this year, Clair Creek Meadows will begin the next year and Vista HIlls after that. At least that is what they think will happen.
I'd like to address the bird issue and I will ask the chair if they will allow me to give comment on the lack of compliance shown towards the previous OMB process. That's sort of a grey area so it will really be up to the chair to decide if they want to hear it or not. I have the option to address the matter in the courts if need be.
So there ya go. The more folks willing to give statements, the better because it shows the OMB that people STILL care about the West Side Lands. Feel free to join the fun!
