Carole,

I have previously been involved -- though my company Enviro-Health
Systems -- in the effects of low concentrations of toxic chemicals on
human health which included the area of environmental
hypersensitivity, one of Dr. Rapp's specialities. I have heard her
speak many times and she is excellent. Her work and that of other
physicians who practice
environmental medicine (I knew very well local paediatric physician
Don Basteado [now deceased] who included environmental & alternative
medicine in his practice.) Despite the urgings of Hippocrates to take
environmental factors into consideration in their diagnoses, this has
mostly not happened with most physicains -- too bad environmental
factors are not part of the physician's Hippocratic oath. And with
most toxicologists being hired guns for chemical company interests and
chemists and chemical engineers not required to learn about toxicology
-- even the biased and watered-down form such as taught by UofG's
Canadian Centre for Toxicology might be better than nothing ("Forgive
them Father, for they know not what they do" -- how convenient!).

Doris Rapp's dietary modification (probably fluoride-free water and
toothpaste were part of the modification) form of treatment does
suggest that fluoride can be a neuro-toxin &/or
neuro-allergen. Of course Rapp's clinical success does not constitute
scientific proof but is very suggestive of negative neurological
effects. But, I would argue that her work is more than sufficient to
trigger the Precautionary Principle. Unfortunately our MOH's are more
in the public relations business and insufficiently in public/
environmental health.

I am currently advocating that we need to set up programs to help make
people in our Region at least smarter, more knowledgeable and wiser so
as to both better: 1) adapt to the World's increasing complexity, and
2) participate in the new Knowledge Economy/Society.
(UofW Pres. David Johnston helped bring this problem of many
undereducated people in our Region in connection with his Knowledge
Capital of Canada idea.) Chemicals that interfere with neurological
functioning -- even if a theoretical grey scale of severity of
negative effects is clustered more towards the small % of the
population end -- can contribute synergistically (with other
environmental, genetic, epigenetic, ... factors) so as to have
negative health effects much beyond the anticipated effects of that
single factor.
Even some chemicals, etc. factors which test o.k. (although most
health/environmental effects testing methods and frequency are very
inadequate) may negatively affect some individuals because of that
person's particular bio-chemical, etc. uniqueness. Especially as every
human life -- mostly because of their uniqueness/diversity/variety/
difference/... -- plays a role in sustaining and advancing our Complex
World, therefore decreasing their ability to so function should never
be tolerated.

I would like to find out more about the harmful neurological effects
of fluoride compounds -- including combined with other chemicals they
may often occur with in the human body such as bromides (from fire
retardants in furnature, etc.) -- based on both clinical practice and
the
very sparse experimental work usually to "prove" no harm to protect
industry from lawsuits.
(This research paper on atrazine involving 2 UofG+ toxicologists could
be such research,
http://toxsci.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/86/2/273 -- we
have to assume that they did no "cooking". yet I remember in
university chemistry that we found out the desired results beforehand,
then did the experiment in a way to produce those results & get a good
mark!)

I really appreciate the work the you Carole and Robert Fleming are
doing on the fluoride issue.

Best wishes,
Robert Milligan
