  Hello trusted friends Other than John Gazzola the rest of OUR elected council were quite definite and adamant in their refusal to 'hold the CSL ' I'm trying to figure it out. Carl Zehr was quite strong in avering that there would be "no development " on these lands over the next 5 years but they are keeping Kitchener's options open. Me thinks there are other reasons we don't YET have a handle on. I'll be doing some sleuthing.
I wanted to quiz him further but I knew it wouldn't get a positive feeling.
Bear in mind that while I was in Real Estate for almost 20 years ,I wrote many hundreds of contracts and "detailed" contracts. The item in question from all aspects, must be addressed in such a manner that it not be able to be misinterpreted or abused from lack of nailing it down firm in writing . I should have stood to ask him if he could also promise (guarantee) that this "unprotected property " would not in any way be "altered" such as missing ponds and missing wetlands in the Doon South area and over on the West Side Lands. or a missing tree lot ( that criminal activity took place on Activa Lands in Doon S.) Would the penalties be 'more' if it was Country Side Line Protected land.???
I'll be there tomorrow nite . Ginny

  Hello All,

  With response to the Kitchener Council countryside line motion..

  I am confused. Can anyone clarify what happens if the agenda item to protect the countryside line is

  -   kept in the ROP

  - the ROP then is provincially approved

  - & then in the following 20 day grace period allowed appealed by the developers

  Does this mean that

  - the ROP is not legal until the appeal is resolved

  - the ROP can deliberately be delayed for an extended period of time by tying it up in appeal process

  - the countryside line is then legally unprotected for an extended period of time?

  Did Kitchener pass last night's motion

  - to protect against development (in Kitchener) during an appeal process if it occurs

  - to avoid the expense of being dragged into the appeal process with regards to their lands

  - to add a backup layer of protection for Kitchener lands

  - Is protection for 5 years better than possible no protection?

  Seeking clarity,

  Sandra Lachance

  Hello All,
  It has been suggested to me that we should each send a short message to all the Regional councillors to say....
  1. I support the permanent protection of the Countryside line;

  2. it is essential to protect the water recharge areas in the SW corner of Kitchener;

  and, following Kitchener's appalling vote Monday night, 5/1, to not support the countryside line that

  3.you are appalled by the position Kitchener councillors (except John Gazzola) took on June 28th; and

  4.that you hope they will vote on Wednesday to protect the countryside line, and complete the Regional Official Policy (ROP).

  If you want more information about Monday's Kitchener Council meeting, check the Record or CTY. I was so impressed by the thoughtful people who spoke, including Yvonne Fernandes, Ginny Quinn, Susan Koswan, Deb Swidrovitch, and Louisette Lanteigne recommending that councillors should not vote to not protect the countryside line.

  Thanks!,
  Daphne
