Dear Greg,
I certainly agree that there is risk with unpasteurized milk and milk
products -- if farm, bottling plant, milk product mfg. plant, ..
standards are not sufficient and/or inadequately enforced. But the
reality in N America, in part, is that Quebec manufactured raw milk
cheese for many years
with apparently minimal problems. (Isn't our imported Swiss cheese
unpasteurized?) Also a number of US states do permit the sale of raw
milk to the public. So, if done properly ... . And like with illegal
abortions, it's always much safer to use a trusted legally
standardized source when you feel that something is necessary for your
health (and many people see a very positive health benefit from
unpasteurized milk including general immune system stimulating
properties necessary for the developing calf).
However, you appear to have not done your homework on the potential
harm of pasteurized and homogenized milk. Firstly, the heat used in
pasteurizing milk degrades nutrients in milk -- protein, essential
fatty acids, some vitamins, -- and destroys others such as enzymes
(serve a useful functions in the body such as an immune system weapon
by dissolving pathogens) and very heat sensitive vitamins. Worse, the
heat does destroy a particular potentially harmful enzyme (sorry, name
escapes me). When homogenization occurs, this is enzyme is within the
very small fat particles that pass through the intestine into the
blood where they subsequently attack heart muscle. Heart disease anyone?
If you so not trust a raw milk source -- for whatever reason -- you
can but a drop or 2 of food grade hydrogen peroxide into you litre of
milk. This should kill most pathogens with only minimal nutrient
destruction or other peroxide production.
In seeking truth, every side of the coin should be fully explored!
Since there was info useful to the group. etc/ -- and no harmful
personal info -- I decided to circulate it more broadly.
Cheers,
Robert
Explore more the underbelly of our great health concerned -- certainly
not excessively profit concerned, otherwise you Greg could not
ideologically support them -- milk industry. Hopefully your
conflicting interests here will not interfere with objectivity of
judgement. I had thought that we concurred on the view that money
corrupts just about everything, thus turning most corporations into
mafia (maybe they're
just better at hiding it!)
