Hello
I would like to share concerns in regards for the need to protect cultural landscapes by way of the PPS 2005.

In the area of West Montrose there is a proposed quarry pit set to be
built in very close proximity to the Kissing Bridge, which is a local
landmark that was featured in the major motion picture, the Bridges of
Madison County. This area contains Mennonite schools, churches and it's
culture is unique in this fast pace modern world. The area draws tourism, particularly
honeymooners who with to relive the romance of the film.  This area may qualify for heritage status, yet the designation of the quarry is
preceding the assessment of the area. Using the PPS 2005, we could
impliment a precautionary approach to mandate that assessment of
potential heritage areas must take place prior to final approval of
development/quarry permits.  To view many of the concerns that area
residents have about the West Montrose Quarry application by Capital
Paving, and how this proposal could put the area Mennonites at risk,

Here is another example from Guelph. There was a
dispute about a Walmart that was set to be built adjacent to the
Ignatius Jesuit Centre, a world-renowned religious centre with two
historic cemeteries. The matter was brought to court and the challenge
claims that the proposed commercial centre will
substantially interfere with the religious beliefs and practices of
individuals of many faiths, who use the Ignatius Jesuit Centre and
adjoining lands. It could be argued that an intervention solely based on economic and property rights and
interests has the potential to affect Charter litigation all across
Canada. Eventually the matter was resolved by way of out of
court settlement when Walmart agreed to place a wall with willow trees to help block the noise and visual interference. To view the
details of the settlement please visit here:

In my view, there should be greater courtesy and a higher level of respect towards the public in cases like this. It should not have taken the fiscal sacrifice of concerned citizens to have to address this issue in the courts. The truth is, there are large corporations who simply don't care, who lord their fiscal monies to get what they want done regardless of what a community feels. This cannot be allowed.  Using the PPS we can mandate that resolutions of issues like this be a condition of final approval.
Thank you kindly for your time.
