Hello everyone

In regards to the recent Nelson Quarry correspondences sent recently I have received letters thanks from three councillors in the Halton Hills and Burlington area as well as conservation groups in the Niagara Escarpment, Site 41 and the Oak Ridges Moraine area. Apparently the OMB experts minutes and the new Conservation Halton report is doing a great service of promoting the need for more critical review of EIS studies. It's all good.

I have also received a letter from Stantec's VP of Practise and Risk Management who requested I forward him any further concerns and stated that the company believes it's work was appropriately done. Typical corporate stance.

Gren member David Wellhauser was in the KW Record today in an article regarding the Country Side Line. It can be seen online here at: http://news.therecord.com/article/604853

On the KW Record website they have a poll asking the following question:
Should rural land in Waterloo Region be declared off limits to development?
When I last checked, 83.54% of the people said yes. To have a say visit here:

Peter sent a brilliant email showing the costs associated with the flushing of watermains in Kitchener and Waterloo to make up for overlarge pipe systems. In a nutshell: Standard flushing is 250 gpm (gallon per minute) @ $204.00 every hour based on 2009 rates (water costs and treatment) per hydrant. Over a 40 year period at 5% interest/inflation, this represents $469,815.69. This is just one hydrant drained for 19 hours per year. Currently they are flushing two hydrants in Kitchener,10 in Waterloo. It's clear from the end figures that the value of water lost is basically equal to the cost of implimenting a new pipe system with the added benefit of actually conserving the water resources.

Peter's email would make an excellent letter to the editor and it should certainly be shared with council members. Perhaps it can go in as a GREN endorsed letter?

Talk to you later!
