[All] Mitra Doherty's Local Initiative Called "Smile Bank"

The attached letter reportedly appeared in the ODA Journal this month.  Dr.
Mitra Doherty has also started a local initiative called "Smile Bank" a few
months ago in order to come up with a positive and action oriented
work-around to fluoridation.  She is working with the local food bank,
starting to distribute toothbrushes to groups that support women and
children.  This initiative appears to directly target socio-economic
disadvantaged dental-caries disparity, something water fluoridation claims
to do but fails to do (research available to substantiate 'fails').  To
date, approximately 3000 brushes have been donated, with a promise of $2000
donation from a foundation in Waterloo.  Smile bank has a registered
charitable number through the food bank.  Mitra is accepting all offers of
help.

 

I think most people will respect Mitra's courage, ingenuity and unwavering
effort towards tackling the water fluoridation issue gracefully and
tenaciously.  Something seldom tried publically by Ontario dentists (Mitra,
Hardy Limeback, maybe a few others).
