<p>Re: Women's auxiliaries. I might have mentioned my historic association with auxiliaries. When I was a student at the University of Saskatchewan a group of progressive women students formed the Women's Liberation Front, and, as expected there was some
push-back. Some of us sympathetic males were trying to think of a way to support them. I suggested we form a Men's Auxiliary to the Women's Liberation Front and hold a fundraiser bake sale. </p>

<p>Our call went out. The rules were that the cooks had to be male, women were welcome to boss them about at will, with no objections allowed - and all baking had to be done barefoot and in the kitchen. On the appointed day we were delighted by the response,
received many more items than we'd anticipated, although the quality was pretty uneven. We all had a lot of fun, we sold out every item, and turned over $129 (equivalent to about $300 to $400 in today's dollars) to the women.</p>

<p>I also have a cook book called Square Meals from the American midwest. The recipes were gleaned from sources like "The women's auxiliary to the Ohio Corn Growers Association 75th anniversary Cookbook". There is a chapter exclusively devoted to tuna casseroles,
with about 30 different concoctions. Carroll and I were invited to a 50th birthday party with a potluck based on a 1950s culinary theme. From this cookbook, we brought "Flaming cabbage head with pupu sauce and cocktail wieners" and "Pepsi cola cake with
peanut frosting". The former earned us the prize for "recipe least likely to be asked for", and the pepsi cola cake, which was surprisingly good, got us prizes in two different categories.</p>

<p>I will be baking Ukrainian Easter babkas later this week.</p>

<div>I agree with sending a donation to Citizens for Safe Water. They put on a very good webinar recently and work very hard. Fighting aggregate extraction is pushing a giant boulder up a hill, but even a lost cause brings people together to shoulder the next
challenge. And the next.

<p>I also would like to send $100 to the Citizens for Safe Groundwater in Shingletown. They have gone all-out with their local issue, but have also been active on policy issues. When I appeared before the standing committee of the legislature regarding changes
to the aggregate act at the London hearings, they were there too and made an excellent presentation based on a fine document. They've engaged a lawyer and 2 experts, so they have considerable expenses. I think GREN should help them out. Please let me know
what you think.</p>
