Hi all,

Yes, I included the link to GreenPAC in my first email. :-) I
wanted to know if anyone else had heard of them, or who they are.
The only response I've had to my email inquiry was that they
received it.

But, having a forum was suggested at the Environmental Defence
"Ontario is not for sale" event recently and they said they could
connect us, so I'm trying that route now. I'm completely
supportive of working with an existing effort. Based on what I can
see, we have to organize the debates, but then their website would
list us as having one. They list by riding rather than region, but
I don't think we have the capacity to do that - as much as I'd
like to.

Another thought is to have someone from our respective groups
interviewing each candidate for 10 minutes or so, rather than
having a big public event. All we need is a location in each
riding where we invite all the candidates for their time-slot,
someone to interview, someone to film - even my cellphone takes
great videos - and a place to post the videos.

Someone did that, but longer interviews, for the last municipal
election I believe, and it's good. Nice to have a record to hold
the eventual victor to account. ;-)
Susan,

1. Reep is in. Thanks for getting this
started.

2. CAWR is going to be asking questions of the
candidates and posting responses - I've drawn
Samantha Tremmel, Acting Plan Manager into the
thread so she can explain what that will be.
Maybe just 1 or 2 questions.

3. Who else? Divest Waterloo is one other
potential group that comes to mind.

4. Re format - it has worked when there are so
many candidates, as with municipal election. I
don't know that it's very effective in really
understanding the difference between
candidates when there's so little time to hear
from them. I think it would be good to have a
more thoughtful process, that could possibly
build on the questions that CAWR is asking, or
one question per organization, or one question
per environmental topic. Candidates could
provide a written response that we post, and
then have a whopping 5 minutes to touch on any
aspect of those questions.

Just a thought, open to others.

Thanks, MJ
Subject: Federal Environmental Election Forum

Hi Everyone,

It's not too early to start thinking about and
planning an Environmental Election Forum. I've
included all of you from the 2018 Municipal
election and attached the handout we sent to
all the candidates. If you're interested in
doing this again for the Federal election, let
me know.

I found this on-line - not sure who is behind
it - but they're trying to get 100
eco-election forums on the same date, Monday
October 7, 2019. I contacted them to get more
info because the website has almost nothing.
https://www.100debates.ca/

As a reminder, we have held ours at Walter
Fedy on Queen St in Kitchener, inviting all
the candidates running in Waterloo, giving
them each 2-3 minutes by riding, and providing
coffee tea snacks in the outside area where
people can mingle and speak directly.

Questions:

1) do we do this again?

2) do we align with this org'n?

3) if so, same format or suggested
improvements?

4) any other groups we want to bring in?

5) something else we could do?

Thanks
