I am sure that you understand that my concern was principally for those associated with GREN who might take it amiss to learn after the fact of a GREN sponsored event. The opposite side of this glitch is that personally I would be absolutely delighted if GREN would sponsor this event. Just reading between the lines of Susan’s email message, you can tell that I have a problem with credibility in promoting this event. That of course comes as no surprise to me, and I have tried to work around it as far as possible. To be able to say that the presentation is sponsored by GREN would be a huge help. For my part I would simply send a message to my co-participants asking them if they would support that sponsorship. I am sure that all would agree. I know that for you it is more difficult, because you and your colleagues would need to have a clear understanding of what you are sponsoring. As you may know, I wrote a long, but somewhat quirky novel to try to raise consciousness to some of the larger issues involved. I was disappointed, but in no way surprised that it didn’t make much impact. That being said, the problem with the biosphere is not going away, and I didn’t feel I could walk away from it without some further effort to make a small difference. Susan when she speaks of slowing the process of climate change actually misses the point of the upcoming roundtable. I’ll email her. We want to discuss the possibility of reversing the process of climate change. The word Holocene has virtually disappeared from the discourse to be replaced with the word Anthropocene. This bit of linguistic flummery is at the same time almost certainly a human tragedy.
