She is an internationally recognized distance educator and has a received the lifetime achievement award of the Canadian Distance Ed Association, a committed member of the Waterloo University Women's Club and a member of its very active Social Justice Committee, which writes letters to newspapers and politicians on a wide variety of issues, including environmental ones.
