Hi GREN Executive,
I have spent a significant amount of time over recent days learning more about the proposed 10 acre forest clearcut in the City of Waterloo in Erbsville. I am going to request to appear before the Regional Licensing Committee hearing this applicate for woodlot removal this coming Friday at 1:30pm virtually. I think that my presentation will be more impactful under the GREN banner rather than just as an individual. Thus, I am reaching to seek agreement to appear as a representative of GREN.
Basically, I don’t think that there is much that we can do to stop this tree cutting on this low quality 10 acre front lot. However, this developer also owns adjacent 14 acre and 11 acre old growth hardwood forests that are most definitely needing long term protection and I want to send a loud, clear message that these other lands need to be protected in perpetuity and not to ever get any ideas to develop them.
We may have to lose a battle to win a war here but we need to ensure that these other hardwood forests become part of the ESL, Countryside Line and Protected Countryside. I’ll see what I can do on Friday.
Please let me know any thoughts or ideas.
Thanks,
Kevin.
