[GREN-Exec] Please Help us Reach your Community Newspapers

Thanks, Kevin! I’ll draft something up for the Woolwich Observer. The template makes it easy!

Here’s a question. I think the general impression people have is that Waterloo Region already protects farmland and green space. So...how do we suggest that provincial protection is different/better/necessary?

Cheers,

Susan B

GREN Exec,

FYI. The OGA Greenbelt Campaign continues to unfold and Franz is doing a great job leading things.

I’m not sure if there is anyone who wants to take the lead on drafting OP ED’s for local papers. There is a great template below.

Please let me know and I’ll keep you posted as things progress.

Cheers,
Kevin.

P.S. - While some of this Greenbelt stuff might seem a bit distant for us here in Waterloo there are rumours of more troubling changes coming from Doug Ford (in addition to all his devastation so far) so it is good that us here in Southern Ontario are part of the OGA collective and have a direct voice/involvement in the coalition responses not only to the Greenbelt but whatever else might be coming.

P.P.S - It seems that the Hold The Line Waterloo Region folks (Sean Campbell, etc.) have been having good meetings with the Region regarding the new ROP and ensuring that the Countryside Line is maintained. Some ongoing concerns in SW Kitchener as usual but all else looks positive.

Hi OGA Supporters,

Thanks to your help, the campaign is off to a great start (see update below)!

Now we need your help to reach even more people, specifically those who read community newspapers.

Attached is a draft OP ED you can submit. Use all or part of it, edit it to make it your own, or start from scratch. Then submit it as soon as you can and let your community know about our campaign.

As you know, people read their community newspapers and most of these newspapers are very open to OP EDs submitted by local residents.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE
We've had thousands of visits to our website and lots of traffic on our social media. That's because many groups have shared our campaign with their supporters via email and social. Thank you.

Please continue sharing our social media. We want as many people as possible to hear that stopping Sprawl and Growing the Greenbelt can be part of a COVID recovery plan.

WE WANT TO SHARE YOUR SOCIAL!!
If you have social media content about the campaign that you want the OGA to share, please send an email ASAP to Debbie Gordon at debbierawngordon at gmail.com<mailto:debbierawngordon at gmail.com>.

GET READY FOR THE NEXT ACTION!
We're now working on the next Action which will involve people writing letters to their Mayor and Councillors asking them to stop sprawl and support protecting more agricultural and natural land (eg. by growing the Greenbelt).

We know that each region in the Greater Golden Horseshoe has its own challenges and opportunities around sprawl and protecting land. So we will be creating 5 slightly different versions of the letter to reflect these regional differences.

Our hope is that the first action will have opened people up to the idea of stopping sprawl and growing the Greenbelt. And now we hope they will write a letter to their Council.

We'll get back to you next week with a launch date for the next Action.

Until then, thank you and be well!
