Environmental Defence is better organizing their opposition to Doug Ford and all his regressive policies under the “Ontario - Not For Sale” banner.  They are pulling together a coalition of community groups to not only opposite all the Conservative cuts but also to ensure that things get properly restored/addressed after the next election.

They are wondering if GREN would like to join their Not For Sale e-mail list and we will be notified when things like this industrial pollution bill below comes up.

I think that we should get our group on the list to at least receive the e-mails and we can always decide our involvement with each issue.  We should also indicate if we would like to sign onto their letter below.

Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to send along an opportunity for any groups, large or small, working in Ontario to sign on to the attached letter we've written to Ontario MPs.

This letter calls on the federal government to reject the Ontario government's weak proposed system<https://www.ontario.ca/page/emissions-performance-standards-program> to price industrial pollution. We are reminding MPs in Ontario that they were recently elected on a promise to strengthen climate action, not weaken it.

There is some urgency on this issue since we expect a decision from the federal government on this any day now. Please sign on by replying to this email by end of day on Monday, February 3rd.

Background:

The federal government's Output-Based Pricing System (OBPS) for large industrial polluters is already operating in Ontario - it's essentially the less exciting sibling to the carbon price for consumers on fuels, etc. Replacing the federal OBPS with Ontario's proposed system will result in higher greenhouse gas emissions at a critical time for climate action. But Ontario needs federal approval, so MPs can and should insist on rejecting this proposal.
