Do we need to discuss this, or am I moving forward on this event? Susan B said she’d like to help.

The only thing I’d like to add is to cover a wall or table with paper where people could write down their best ideas for waste reduction.

Yup, makes sense to me, John.

I will get to it shortly.

I had a brainwave this morning for an event. All your thoughts and ideas went into my brain and came out with this:

Dumpster Dine and D’art: An Evening of Waste Not, Want Not

1) Social hour with local brews and wines and buffet-style food items made by local chefs from “ugly” food that would have gone to waste. (FYI, the latest National Geographic has a lengthy article on food waste and what one man has been doing to combat that – very interesting article!)

2) Intersperse mini-talks on waste (garbage, recycling, human, biosolids, water waste etc) with original or not-so-original waste-themed songs, poems and short stories by local artists (and pay an honorarium to each musician/poet)

3) Silent auction with items made by local artists out of recycled/repurposed materials. Half the money raised by their item goes to the artist.

4) Goal is zero garbage.

5) Could even have some activity tables with stuff on it for people to make their own recycled art thing that they could enter in a contest that would be judged by audience applause.

Would be nice to do it at The Museum or Victoria Park pavilion.

What do you think?

Susan,

Thanks for pulling these together so promptly. I have put my comments in the attached minutes.

When I review the minutes I work on the assumption that these minutes could go far and wide beyond our list serve. That is the nature of the electronic world. Therefore, you will notice that the main thing I have done is to remove certain things that could be embarrassing if they went beyond us either because they aren't accurate or because they would let out a strategy that we don't want out - like who we are going to go after for funding for Hidden Valley. Also we need to make sure that we don't say things that may embarrass a person we are hoping to develop as an ally by overstating what they said to us or saying something they may not have said in a more open forum.

I trust that this makes sense to the rest of you. I urge the rest of you to take a glance at the minutes on any issue you were directly involved in to be sure that there aren't any such problems in those parts.

John
