Subject: Re: Endorsements
Many people were surprised by one decision or another of the Better Choices
Executive, John.
I don't think anyone can legitimately accuse us of pandering to a narrow
agenda. We picked some people who are strong on labour and weak on
environmental issues, some the reverse, some Liberals, NDPers, and even a
Conservative or two.
Our process was transparent, and the people making the decisions were (I
think) a good cross-section of interests.
We had to weight input from many people, which of course often contained
contradictory advice. We don't intend to name the people who applied for our
endorsement and didn't get it, because we don't want to criticize those
people for being unworthy in some way. But there were cases where we had
only one person apply and turned that person down because we didn't feel the
candidate had enough of the commitments and characteristics we were looking
for.
