Exciting news. The Ontario Headwaters Institute received word yesterday that
their project, which we supported and will be part of, was approved by the
Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation.

This is the summary of their project:
The Ontario Headwaters Institute, a registered charity focused on research,
education, and best
practices, seeks to develop a series of ten headwater hikes, in
collaboration with local partners, to
enhance public understanding of the important role that headwaters perform
in the health of the
Greenbelt¹s biodiversity, downstream watersheds, and socio-economic fabric.
The hikes will be designed in partnership with regional partners, and will
represent a cross-section
of different types of headwater areas across the Greenbelt. Once the hikes
and their supporting
materials are developed, individuals will be able to experience headwater
areas on their own, such
as from seeing the information on the Friends of the Greenbelt website or
through on-going
activities delivered by the OHI or our project partners.
Headwater Hikes will help increase overall appreciation of headwater areas,
the Greenbelt, and the
need to safeguard and strengthen the implementation of the Greenbelt
initiative.

I have attached the whole application for your information.

I don¹t know if they got all of the funding the asked for. By mid-July they
will have worked out their contract with the Foundation so I expect to get
more details during July about the project and about timing.

This will be a fine piece of work for our community and will also help raise
the profile of GREN. The hike descriptions will be put on our website.
