As I think I already told you, the headwater hikes project has been
approved. They are planning to include one from our area even though we are
outside of the official greenbelt. When they draw this up it will make a
nice addition to our website.
Do you have any ideas of hikes in our area that would show school children
and the public areas that need headwater protection? What would you
recommend as a prime candidate?

Subject: Grant for Headwater Hikes
Hi all,
We now have a signed contract with the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation
to identify and develop ten Headwater Hikes across the Greenbelt. Thanks
again for your expressions of interest in and support for the project.
Work begins after Labour Day with some revisions to the website to reflect
the project, an e-mail newsletter from the OHI to announce the project and
other fall/winter OHI initiatives, and collaboration with others to
similarly spread the word.
Specific opportunities to further publicize the project will take place Sept
12 at a meeting of the Ontario Greenbelt Alliance; Sept 13 on the Credit
River Alliance / Credit Valley Conservation meeting and train tour of the
Credit; and when the OHI leads a tour at Purple Woods Conservation Area on
Sept 28 with the STORM / Earthroots / Ontario Nature / Ecospark
collaborative effort on the Greenbelt review. I imagine I will see some of
you there.
I¹d like to chat with each of you next week, and move forward to begin
identifying and doing a preliminary assessment of candidate Hikes. I hope to
walk each proposed Hike asap - alone or with you or one of your members as
preferred / convenient.
As I¹ve mentioned in conversation with most of you, I think we need about 15
candidate partners and candidate Hikes and believe that this core group of
the eight of you should provide six to eight of the Hikes. If we end of with
11, 12, or 13 that would be fine. No good candidate Hikes will be
overlooked. We can either simply deliver 13 through the funded project, or
deliver 3 outside of the project.
I wish you a wonderful long weekend and look forward to chatting with you
next week.
Andrew
