Hey GREN Exec,
Hope the meeting went well this week - thanks for doing the minutes again Susan B!
Re election, I got this email below (I don't know why, I don't know who most of these people are - oh, wait a minute - I think this might be follow-up to the Better Choices meeting - I must have ticked off the box that said I would help)...
Anyway, I think the GREN meet and greet with coffee/tea dessert and giving all the candidates a minute or two to say why we should vote for them, was a good format and a reasonably pleasant, non-combative way to do this and I'm reasonably happy about helping to organize it.
I think we (I?) should contact WREN, WPIRG, CREW, and any other environmental acronym you can think of to co-sponsor this - and hold it at St John's Kitchen or some church that will let us use their coffee pots and mugs and we have ourselves an event.
I'll bake some cookies and, if Theo wants to reimburse me, I can pick up the coffee/tea/cream etc 8-)
How soon do we want to do this?
Susan K

Assuming a provincial election call? Definitely.
The YWCA is already planning something. We will be choosing an 'issue of the week' and inviting the candidates to submit 250 word (or fewer) position papers on those issues (with the stipulation that they not attack other parties' positions, but rather promote their own). We'll post the issue and all the responses on the Waterloo Region Social Action and Advocacy Committee blog, and facebook and tweet them daily.
That's not to say that we wouldn't be on board with doing more. It's just everyone knows what else we'll be doing.
Elizabeth

Subject: Election Campaign
Are folks interested in putting together a 2014 election campaign from Step It Up?
The goal would be to get women's issues (poverty, housing, childcare,
VAW) into the platforms of the political parties
