Should also bring up how this affects the landfill operations - 300 trucks a
day into the landfill! Has the City consulted with the Region on that
impact?

Good luck with this Kevin,

I agree and know the WREN folks well. Unfortunately, I am totally consumed
until Monday trying to deal with this Westside Costco development proposal
coming to Waterloo City Council for a final vote on Monday. It is an
extremely grim scenario with far reaching long-term impacts across the
entire West side of Waterloo.

GREN should be speaking out regarding the potential impacts of so much
traffic in the ESL, ESPA areas, the nearby wetlands, aquifer recharge areas
etc. Other issues such as severe traffic congestion in an already busy and
highly constrained area could impact quality of life in our community for
generations.

I think that Deb is going to try to reach out to GREN with more information.
I think with enough community support we can get City Council defer the vote
to allow time for proper public engagement and better solutions to be found.
We need letters to Councillors (City and Regional), more attention in the
media (everyone is excited about Costco, few realize the significant
negative implications of building in an area without any of the needed
infrastructure - not even sidewalks!), and attendance at Monday's Council
meeting.

Let us know any thoughts or ideas and I will follow-up more on the WREN
stuff on Tuesday.

Kevin.

I think a report from the WREN meeting would be useful. Can Kevin or John
do it? (I think a member of GREN Exec should do it, if present at the WREN
meeting.)

We defintely need to meet as Exec ASAP.

It hasn't worked out for us to have a meeting before the next GREN meeting
to discuss the website. I would now like to do it in the week after the GREN
meeting.

Fortunately the GREN vs WREN e-mails seem to have ended. I propose that we
put "Report from WREN meeting" on the agenda for the GREN meeting next
Thursday. I think to not put WREN on the agenda would look like we were
burying our heads in the sand and would create further tensions. I do not
see this, however, as a continuation of the "dialogue" that was going on in
the e-mails. I see it as a way to get people more informed of WREN. Should I
invite someone from WREN to come to the meeting to fill people in on WREN,
etc. or should we just have reports from the GREN people who attended the
WREN meeting? The PRO of having a WREN person there is that we will gain
more detail on WREN and their plans and it will be more complete. The ANTI
is that the GREN members who attended may feel less open in saying what they
thought of the meeting. We also must remember, however, that it is likely
that WREN will know that a report on the WREN meeting is on our agenda and
will show up anyway because some of them are on our GREN e-mail list.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY HOW YOU WANT TO PROCEED ON WREN AT NEXT
THURSDAY'S MEETING:

1.	Put WREN meeting on agenda?
2.	Invite a person from WREN to come to do a report on WREN?

Kevin and I expect to have a meeting with WREN next Wednesday to explore the
situation. I do not see the outcome of that meeting as being something
brought to the meeting on Thursday - the next day after the WREN-GREN
meeting.

It is because of these events that I think it is essential that we have a
GREN Executive meeting as soon after the full GREN meeting as possible so we
can have a serious discussion on the next steps forward and on the
discussion Kevin and I have had. We also can then discuss our website,
because the WREN-GREN relationship may affect the website needs.

John
