[GREN-Exec] GREN meeting in September

I am away on family business in Sask. Sept 9-17, and then on vacation in England from probably Sept. 30-Oct 17.  You might have to do without me.

I had a  fright this morning.  We have had an outbreak of pantry moths so I bought a couple of traps.  They consist of a small 2 inch bore cylinder with sticky flypaper on the inside and a tiny capsule of pheromone (gaseous sexual hormone) attractant.  I put them out a couple of weeks ago and checked this morning to see if they were working.  I picked one up off a window ledge and held it close to my face to look inside -- and screamed from surprise.  Inside was a dead bat.  I think it had gone inside to hide and then got stuck on the sticky paper.  it must have been a horrible death.  Bats have declined badly because of a fungal disease.  I really feel badly for it.

I just talked with Susan B and she said about a meeting for GREN that she has in her calendar for September 12. I didn’t have it in my calendar. The other meeting, which I did have in my calendar is November 6.

Let me know right away whether or not you want to go ahead with the Sept 12. If so, I will send out a notice tomorrow (Friday) and get a room.

It would be timely for us to discuss:

  1.  Regional Appeal – do we still want to do a letter and/or anything else?
  2.  Review of OMB – what process do we want to use to put together comments for OMB revision, e.g., Greg’s suggestion that we hold a special session on it.
  3.  Municipal elections – 1st meetings on that are being held the next week (Sep 17 & 19)
  4.  Water Symposium outcomes
  5.  discussion of issues GREN should work on between now and next summer
  6.  Other member updates.

Let me know whether you want to go ahead with Sept 12 and let me know anything you would like added to the calendar. Sorry about being late getting to you on this. It just never made it into my calendar. My personal view is that it is okay to go ahead with Sept 12 – provided the rest of you are available.
