Hi GREN Exec,

Several of us were contacted by Ella in Brantford (see thread below) - isn't
this the kind of connection we've been talking about building?

My thought was to meet halfway in Cambridge and invite them. Maybe arrange
for our next meeting to be at rare again? Any thoughts?

Thx so very much Norah and Susan,

How 'bout a forum on Farmland Grab, Gravel, and Water? Yes, I know
Carl...we've been on a panel together addressing the farmland grab.

James played at our wedding, and Sustainable Brant has worked with Dale.

I'll send out a memo re the Council of Canadians mtg on Sat.

A key need for us right now is to support Brant groups in a coalition. Maybe
you can help us with that.

Hi Ella and Anne ,

Sustainable Brant needs to connect with this new chapter of Council of
Canadians in Brantford.

Please keep us informed in Guelph of this Walton issue. It looks a lot like
the Melancthon Megaquarry strategy..
Also.. the Megaquarry folks would like to come to the Brant area and have
more connection with the whole watershed.
Would you be interested in a Growth, Gravel, Soil and Water forum?.. I know
that Carl Cosack would be glad to come down to be part of it.
James Gordon, a local musician of note, is working on a musical production
on these issues of corporations gaining territory and access to public
goods... and the pipeline to L Erie is a longstanding issue for Guelph CoC.

Let me know how we can help.... Norah Chaloner Guelph chapter Council of

November 3
CETA primer and discussion and new Brantford chapter!

Our Trade Campaigner Stuart Trew will speak In Brantford about the sinister
Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA)
<http://canadians.org/ceta> . Stuart will show how the Harper government is
misleading - and in some instances deceiving - Canadians about the likely
effects the CETA will have on public policy, public services and municipal
democracy. There will also be a discussion about establishing a local
Council of Canadians chapter in the area.

All are welcome, come and join us:

Saturday, November 3 at 10:00 a.m.
At The Blue Dog Cafe (in the Board Room upstairs)
199 Brant Ave., Brantford, ON

This is so strange Norah - it arrived the same day as the GM alfalfa protest
and you had said we need to work with people in Brantford. You got your
wish!

I don't believe anyone from GREN has replied to Ella, but I'm going to
propose to GREN Exec that perhaps we meet somewhere in Cambridge next time
and invite them up. What do you think?

Subject: tonight's mtg

Hi everyone at GREN,

I'm from Sustainable Brant and we share some common concerns. We would like
to work with GREN, but I can't attend tonight's mtg.

There is a huge farmland grab in Brant County because it is just outside of
the Greenbelt. Landbanking company Walton is now the largest landowner in
Brant County with much of its money

coming from investors in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. When we examine
deeds of land sold to Walton, we see hundreds of names from these companies
on the deed.

Walton's own documents show that this company is planning on the "NAFTA" hwy
and the Lake Erie pipeline. We are very closely following the NGTA and the
proposed 424 hwy.

Sustainable Brant works together as part of a coalition in Brant County with
other community groups fighting sprawl, and with groups promoting zero
waste, and the Mohawk Workers.

I hope that one of you receives this email before the mtg.

I was pleased to see GREN at the CCOB pots and pans march.

We would like to collaborate with you in the future on common concerns.

Ella
