Hi Susan,

As this is a volunteer drive for us as much as an organizational meeting, we
would appreciate the ability to speak at the beginning and end, to discuss
initiatives (both about and parallel to RT) that we had planned to launch at
this meeting.

I see the meeting agenda as follows:

7:30-7:40 introduction: information about initiatives, how to sign up,
speaker

7:40-8:10 presentation by Mr. J. Casello

8:10-8:30 written questions delivered by moderator (this will cut
unnecessary time out of the structured QA session; I can print forms)

8:30-8:40 closing: recommended actions, information about recurring meetings
for GREN and TriTAG

8:40-9:00 open discussion and opportunities to mingle

Hi Tim,

When we added your attendance numbers on FB to ours, we decided we'd take a
chance and see if we could fill Whole-Lot-a-Gelata.

Before I send out our notice, I want to confirm that our agenda for the
evening meshes with TriTag's. We usually start at 7:15 (and can cover some
GREN business then since you are starting at 7:30), Jeff Casello will do his
presentation (30 minutes max) and the rest is Q & A, next steps etc. We want
to pick Jeff's brain for ideas about how and where to go from here. I
believe there should be a few minutes for TriTag to say a few words about
your role in all of this too.

Let me know ASAP if this works for you so I can send out the changed info to
GREN members.

Thanks,

Susan K

Hi Susan,

GREN is welcome to join us, but I can't move the meeting location on my end.
Did they take into account that they're not likely to be busy at that point?

Oops, just noticed I didn't copy you on this Tim - see below - we expect
about 20 GREN members.

I just called and 30 would be SRO, 20 would be comfortable in the room at
Whole-Lot-A-Gelata.

Tim - we certainly don't want to interfere with your arrangements, but would
you consider moving to St. John's Kitchen where space is not an issue? If
you're not familiar with it, it faces onto Victoria at Weber in Kitchener.
We ordinarily do not have refreshments at our meetings, which might make it
less appealing.8-)

I, unfortunately, either won't be there or will be late as I have a previous
commitment for that evening - it starts at 7:00, but I'm not sure how long
it will be.

Certainly not 30; and we expect to more or less have the venue to ourselves.
I don't know what your meeting numbers usually look like, but I know that if
we have more than 30 people show up to an organizational meeting about LRT
then we have what one might call in another context "rich people problems."

In the winter, Whole Lot-A Gelata, which also makes delicious sandwiches and
coffee beverages, normally closes around 8 on Tuesdays unless open later by
request, which is the case here.

Ah, John, you don't know what you've been missing 8-) Besides gelato, they
have coffees, lattes etc.

There's a separate room upstairs which can hold about 30 people max. What
kind of turnout are you expecting Tim?

Meeting together would certainly make sense. I don't know the Gelato place.
Does it have a large enough area where we can be separate from the rest of
their customers and don't need to worry about speaking loudly?

Tim, I want to be sure that we don't intrude on your meeting. What were you
planning for an agenda? Our agenda as you saw is to spend about an hour with
Jeff Casello talking about LRT, and to then go into a discussion on
strategy, which would also include Jeff.

Hi Tim,
That's unfortunate, but we needed to go with Jeff's availability. What do
you think of moving to Whole Lotta Gelata John? I'm thinking if TriTag is
"recruiting", then maybe it would make sense to have Jeff there to bring
everyone up to speed. Any thoughts?
Susan
P.S. I love gelato.

Hi Susan,

We're holding an open volunteer meeting on the same night, for many of the
same reasons, at Whole Lot-A Gelata in Waterloo.

Are you, John, et al available next Tuesday evening the 11th to discuss game
plan with our exec?

Hi Sylvan,

Can you please let the rest of TriTag know about this meeting? We want to
make sure we're working together on getting the LRT, so it would be great if
at least some of you can make it.

Let me know if we can expect you.

Thanks,

GREN will be holding a special meeting on Light Rail Transit. Jeff Casselo
will be our special guest. Professor Jeff Casello is jointly appointed at
the University of Waterloo in the School of Planning and the Department of
Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is an expert in the planning, design
and operation of public transportation systems.

Jeff will do a presentation on the role of Light Rail Transit. This will be
followed by a question period and then strategizing on ways in which GREN
could affect the decisions on the future of LRT that Waterloo Regional
Council is expected to make in the next couple of months.

GREN meeting: Tuesday January 18, 2011, 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
St. John's Kitchen, Victoria at Weber, Kitchener, 2nd floor [enter from
side, several bus lines within 2 blocks, limited parking in back and you
need to enter from Weber St]
