Susan,
Great initiative and I think this could be a wonderful/productive meeting if we are able to really promote and encourage candidates, the media and GREN folks to attend. It could be an excellent way to ensure that the environment is part of the election dialog and to help build GREN's profile and reputation in the community. We may need to put some pressure on some key candidates and media to attend however, once they agree many others will soon follow.
I would agree that it would be nice to hear from each candidate for 90 seconds or so and giving them a chance to speak will certainly increase attendance.
Some suggestions for the e-mail are in red below:
> Dear Municipal Candidate,
>
> The Grand River Environmental Network www.gren.ca is made up of a broad group of Grand River Watershed associations and residents who share a concern about our environment. GREN members have held monthly meetings since 2002 in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Elmira and Elora.
>
> Please accept our invitation to a short presentation of GREN’s municipal election “wish list”* and a chance for us to hear your environmental perspective. Please also join us for a potluck dessert and beverages reception afterwards.
> We will be holding the meeting on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at St. John’s Kitchen, 2nd floor 97 Victoria St. N @ Weber in Kitchener. The entrance is on the East side of the building. Parking is around back and can be limited, although there are other lots nearby. You may wish to carpool or take alternative transportation as the location is on major transit lines.
>
> The presentation will begin at 7:30, followed by your ideas, then refreshments and a meet and greet until 9:00 p.m. Please RSVP to info at gren.ca even if you can only make it to part of the evening.

Any thoughts on how we can ensure some media in the room?
Keep things moving forward and let me know how I can help.
Cheers,
Kevin.
