Hi GREN exec,
I've been thinking more about a big green GREN event and started googling
for models.
What I'd like to see is an emphasis on good news, making it easier for
people to go green and a healthy combination of activism and green
consumerism in terms of making it easier and helping people become aware
that they have choices.
Found this as a starting point. http://www.greenfestivals.org/
We need to engage the community, local business, mainstream people. These
shows draw a huge number of people and we have to get out of our comfort
zone and start thinking like non-environmental activists to engage the
community.
Also, I was thinking about how GREN isn't even really engaging all the usual
suspects. I'm thinking we need to do a "Godfather" thing and have a meeting
with all the "heads of the families" of groups that are not currently
involved to start talking about this. For eg. we need to specifically target
CREW, Warmer, the new transit group, WPIRG and more that I can't think of
right now. I know there are other environmental groups focussed on specific
issues that aren't under our umbrella. And if we can't get Waterloo Region
interest groups under one umbrella, how can we possibly succeed in engaging
groups outside our immediate vicinity?
Just a few thoughts.
Minutes attached from last night for your comments.
