[GREN-Exec] LRT Presentation

Carole et al:

My expressions are mostly from looking at the surface of the call for LRT (not sure what it means, Light Rail Transit or Light Rapid Transit; but there is a difference). I live in the country and carry a minimum of 300 pounds of tools or equipment for both my work and my recreation. When I go into town it is to pick something up and transport it elsewhere. For this I need a vehicle.

I visit my Doctor about every 5 to 10 years and that is as frequent as I hope I ever need to. I do not bar hop. I do not go to shows or movies. I have received as much formal education as I will ever need.

These are some of my wonderings about the need for the service when we see now that bus use is going to be trimmed back because no one is using it.

In closing if this project is going to be undertaken for its practical reasons then they escape me. On the other hand if it is going to be hailed as symbol of the areas other attributes of being more intelligent and greenish and always looking down the road to the future then it may have merit but one must remember this system is only as good as the machinery and the people who take care of it. If it is designed with a life expectancy of say 2X an automobile then it will be nothing more than a white elephant.

Ever heard of Townsend.

2 cents

I agree with Susan K. There were 2 dissenting voices in the entire membership and their objections were discussed online.

2 voices out of 90 (?) is not sufficient to squash this, in my opinion. 100% consensus is rarely possible.

Randy, would you care to comment further so that we can understand more clearly what your concerns are RE LRT?

I wish you to present GREN's statement to the ROW.

How do we want to proceed now on the Light Rail Transit issue. I haven’t registered to speak on behalf of GREN because I wasn’t sure that we would have a united position. What is your sense of things from the comments you have seen. Do you think we can go ahead and present a GREN view.

If we are to speak, I need to know right away because Thursday is the last day to register. We can still submit it in writing if we don’t make the deadline for speaking.
