<html><head><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body style="overflow-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;"><div dir="auto" style="overflow-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;"><div>Good Day,</div><div><br></div><div>Join us Friday (tomorrow) on our 5:30pm Zoom call to discuss the good news and a victory for Kepler Woods as Conestoga Meats has withdrawn their application to destroy this diverse forest, how the Fight For Farmland sent a strong message at the New Hamburg Fall Fair, and share information on other issues and lots of events coming in the days ahead:</div><div><br></div><div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;">        </span>Join us Friday, September 20th at 5:30pm:</div><div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;">       </span><a href="https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82644695701?pwd=bnRsUGtWSUcrRnFWR21uYVBISG9jZz09">https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82644695701?pwd=bnRsUGtWSUcrRnFWR21uYVBISG9jZz0</a></div></div></div><div><br></div><div>Here’s the latest:</div><div><br></div><div><b style="font-size: 14px;">1) Conestoga Meats Forest Destruction Averted - </b>Congratulations to the citizens who banded together and everyone who wrote letters as well as spoke up regarding the application from Conestoga Meats to destroy Kepler Woods, a 36 acre significant forest for the construction of their new plant near Breslau.  We learned from Region of Waterloo Staff on Wednesday that their application for forest clearcutting and destruction has been withdrawn.  Hopefully, this means that the company has heard a loud, clear message from the community against the destruction of this forest, and instead will pursue one of the many other alternatives that would still allow for construction of the new facility in a different configuration on the site in a manner that would save and protect the forest.</div><div><br></div><div>We will have to watch and see how things unfold over the weeks ahead.  </div><div><br></div><div><b>Action Required -</b> Please share anything that you can learn and keep speaking up for the need to continue to protect our remaining natural areas.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><b style="font-size: 14px;">2) Wilmot Fight For Farmland - </b>There was an incredible showing of community support at the New Hamburg Fall Fair this past weekend as thousands of citizens made it clear firsthand that We Are Unwilling!  The Fight For Farmland group had a booth at the fair that was busy all weekend and at times it was all that volunteers could do to keep up with questions, people wanting signs, signing numerous petitions, etc.</div><div><br></div><div><div>Almost every single home in the neighbourhoods around the fairgrounds have Fight For Farmland signs up and the Fight For Farmland had a very high profile throughout the fair.  More than 2,000 stickers were distributed for people to wear stating “We Are Unwilling” that were highly visible on people all over the event.  We even had groups of teenagers asking for Fight For Farmland stickers for their cell phones, laptop computers, and water bottles.  </div><div><br></div><div>MPP Mike Harris Jr made his first trip to Wilmot in months and joined Wilmot Mayor Natasha Salonen as well most of Wilmot Council at into the Opening Ceremonies on Friday evening to find almost every single person in the vast hall wearing a Fight For Farmland sticker stating We Are Unwilling.  Numerous speakers including even the candidates for Fair Ambassador raised concerns about the Wilmot Land Assembly, the lack of proper process, and the absurdity of this proposed mega-industrial site.  It all certainly sent a strong message about the outrage and concern in the community.  Mike Harris Jr. left early after only tepid applause to his remarks and has to be worried about his re-election given such a strong, clear message from an unwilling community.</div></div><div><br></div><div><div>We had hundreds and hundreds of people sign petitions and it was a challenge to ensure we had enough blank petitions to sign at times.  Demand was strong for lawn signs with hundreds more distributed.  Most importantly though there was so much conversation, discussion, awareness, and agreement from folks from all walks of life that we are an unwilling community for what is being proposed.  It will certainly be hard for any local elected official to claim that they aren’t hearing from the community, or that they feel there is broad support for the mega-site based on the strong, consistent public reaction at the fair.</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"></div><div><b>Recent media </b>- Includes coverage from PostMedia that ran in newspapers across Ontario:</div><div><br></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre">    </span>The London Free Press - Public Good Questionable When Farmland Expropriated for Industry:</div><div><s
