The loopholes are many and I agree with the concerns of Climate Messangers who state: </span></span></p><p style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px 0px 20px 40px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;color:rgb(69, 69, 69);font-family:Roboto, sans-serif;font-size:15px;"><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;">• Whereas the federal government’s Emissions Reduction Plan (the </span><b style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;">“ERP”</b><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;">) released on 29 March 2022 suggested the cap would be 110 Mt in 2030 [3],</span><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;"> the Framework proposes “issuing a total quantity of allowances in 2030 of </span><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;">between 106 and 112 Mt CO2e [carbon dioxide equivalent]” [4].</span><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;"> We assume the cap will be 112 Mt (2 Mt more than what the ERP proposed) because almost every time the federal government proposes a range of numbers for an emissions target, everything they do thereafter focuses on the more lenient number.</span></p><p style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px 0px 20px 40px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;color:rgb(69, 69, 69);font-family:Roboto, sans-serif;font-size:15px;"><span style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;outline:currentcolor;">• ECCC has also made the cap more lenient by reducing the scope of oil and gas production that will be covered by the cap. Downstream oil refineries and gas pipelines, responsible for 20 Mt of annual emissions, are not covered by this cap.</span><span Mt, as called for in the ERP, ECCC will only require oil and gas producers to reduce annual emissions by 34 Mt (see graph below).</span></p><p style="background:none;border:0px;margin:0px;padding:0px We are planning on geothermal power for the downtown core and invested in recycling, waste reduction and energy savings at the individual and business level through Sustainable Waterloo, Greening Sacred Spaces, TriTag and many other programs. We are committed to reducing 80% of our emissions (from 2010 levels) by 2050 at the Municipal and Regional levels. We have also declared a climate emergency at the City and Regional levels. I took this photo below in Kitchener Council. The insurance to cover the damages covered for some of the costs. This roof helps deflect light allowing our house to keep cooler in the summer and it is better to keep heat in winter plus it is lightening proof. We had two homes catch fire near my house as a result of lightening. My husband is 63 and he suffered heart failure and had a quintuple bypass. The air quality is worse where we live and we fear our efforts to reduce smog are being undone by the Ford Government and federal government who are failing to stop high polluting industries from polluting. This is putting all our lives at risks. </div><div><br clear="none"></div><div>We have to say no to new oil and gas. We have to divest of the wars associated with it. If we stop our own use of fossil fuels we will help end the funds linked to cartels and mafia whose funds are interwoven with this sector. It will also divest us of the tax evading elites, the hedge and tech funds who are behind the funding of both oil and weapons in Canada. We have to stop the mob and start investing in the kind of world we want to live in. CPPIB has to divest of the mob.
