<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">More photos of Howald's clear cut property are in the attachments. I took them today, March 4/2022.<br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">This article notes he wanted to clear 9 acres for housing and I notified the city this area is home to Endangered Brown Bats. (The boxes exist all along his property line in Colombia Forest) and ESA reports regarding a potential trail network through his land noted Hooded Warbler and Acadian Flycatchers (Lyle Friesen studied the area) and there is also a physical Jefferson Salamander at Laurier University gathered during the Laurel Creek Watershed Study. I hired two experts who secured protective concessions for both ESPA 19's wetlands and Clair Creek. This area is all recharge for both those systems. The storm management system in front of Howald's property goes right into Clair Creek and the area is over top primary recharge as noted on Regional Maps. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The impact of the salt runoff needs to be assessed for the risks it poses to fish but there are serious risks of flooding both locally and downstream if this runoff goes into the creek directly and now the trees are no longer there to allow for drainage into the ground. We could see adverse flood impact as soon as this year. We're talking a water budget loss to wells plus a flood risk increase to tributaries that already are under stress with climate change and I have yet to see if they've even considered any form of flood risk mitigation strategy with this tree removal. <br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">It is very upsetting and disturbing to see. Here is the article where howald expresses the wish to develop 9 acres of land. That was back in December. I assume that's how many trees have just been removed. <br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><a href="https://www.therecord.com/local-waterloo/news/2021/12/13/erbsville-road-property-could-help-link-neighbourhoods-bring-more-affordable-housing-to-west-waterloo.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="enhancr_card_7203622706">Erbsville Road property could help link neighbourhoods, bring more affordable housing to west Waterloo</a></div><div><br></div><div id="ydpedf62db9enhancr_card_7203622706" class="ydpedf62db9yahoo-link-enhancr-card ydpedf62db9ymail-preserve-class ydpedf62db9ymail-preserve-style" style="max-width:400px;font-family:YahooSans, Helvetica Neue, Segoe UI, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif" data-url="https://www.therecord.com/local-waterloo/news/2021/12/13/erbsville-road-property-could-help-link-neighbourhoods-bring-more-affordable-housing-to-west-waterloo.html" data-type="YENHANCER" data-size="MEDIUM" contenteditable="false"><a href="https://www.therecord.com/local-waterloo/news/2021/12/13/erbsville-road-property-could-help-link-neighbourhoods-bring-more-affordable-housing-to-west-waterloo.html" style="text-decoration-line: none !important;
