This is the new Trade Agreement that replaces Nafta. Canada has an absolutely extraordinary roll to play in this because our Minister Chrystia freeland isn't a hand shaking kind of person. In fact she was banned in Russia for exposing corruption when she worked as a journalist there. If you look at the agreement you will see in section 27 it includes provisions specifically to fight corruption. This is important because many firms need to invest in carbon offsets and many First Nations reserves still run on diesel. I have worked with a fella who was establishing the data base to make it easier to connect international investors to First Nations communities, to invest in green infrastructure programs to help build up local economies while advancing fossil fuel free solutions. If the program works well with First Nations we intend to expand this to investments for all northern communities be they Canadian or Indigenous communities. line-height: 16px; margin: 0px; color: rgb(151, 155, 167);">First Nations business set to hit $100 billion in just five years</p></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></a></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>I have been talking with many folks outside GREN who are with Indigenous Groups and Canadian judiciary groups, policy folks etc. to see what we can do to advance solutions swiftly without breaking apart the fabric of nationhood constructs and by far one of the easiest solutions that have surfaced from the observation of a friend of mine and I is the simple logic that education, health, environmental policy, MOE and MNR laws and building codes which currently fall under Provincial jurisdictions, needs to be under Federal Jurisdictions. These all relate to live saving policies.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The system in the past was designed for tax evasion, weaker environmental fines and cheap exploitation of the lands and resources and to kettle us from the rights and liberties of other people but now we know that's not reasonable or affordable to do. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">If you are going to protect a river and the fish in it, the laws to protect that entire system must be consistent. Rivers cross First Nations and Provincial so it has to be federal. With health care and education it is economically beneficial to everyone to simply provide it. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I made the call today to Catherine Fife and Bardish Chagger to support the idea of moving these laws to federal jurisdiction and I'd like to ask GREN to please support this too. We can all remain who we all are and continue to do what we do without having to undo the fabric of nationhood.
