<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Today, the Ontario government announced that it will immediately enact measures to protect bees from harmful neonicotinoid pesticides. <b>And you, along with tens of thousands of other concerned people, made it happen! </b></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">The new measures, effective as of July 1, 2015, are the first of their kind in North America:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Reduce the number of acres planted with neonicotinoid-treated seeds by 80 per cent by 2017. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Provide training for farmers to evaluate their soil and help them identify conditions for neonicotinoid use.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><b><a href="http://salsa4.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=vHKNSoTXZ5Yl9lG6by8oieqk2CBpH9vB">Sign here to thank Premier Wynne for protecting the bees.</a></b></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Verdana;">Neonics have been proven to be toxic to bees. During the winter of 2013-2014, bee deaths in Ontario reached 58 per cent, threatening biodiversity and food security. A recent draft report from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) shows that coating seeds with neonicotinoid treatments has minimal benefit to corn and soybean yields. </span></p>
