I am writing because Birdbone Theatre, a humble two-lady puppet show company, is organizing our pipeline puppet show in February and I would like to ask your help. </div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><font face="arial, sans-serif"><br></font><div><div>We will be touring our<b> Tar Sands Dragon Opera (and clown show)</b> along Line 9 the month of February, and we are looking for folks who will host our show in their communities (schools, community halls, living rooms etc.) We would love to connect with as many of the folks involved in Line 9 organizing as possible.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The Tar Sands Dragon Opera is a puppet tragi-comedy featuring the clown hysterics of a bewildered cardboard population struggling to come to terms with the murky convoluted thinkings on Tar Sands expansion and consequent Line 9 reversal. The show will also feature music and dancing by humans, to lighten the occasionally inky mood. </div>
<div><br></div><div>The Tar Sands Dragon Opera is a media project. We will learn about the case against the reversal of Line 9 from the communities we perform for, and will allow this to inform our show as we go. We will also make short radio pieces along the way when appropriate.</div>

</div><div><div><u>BIRDBONE THEATRE PRESENTS:</u></div><div><b>The TAR SANDS DRAGON OPERA </b><b>(and clown show)</b></div><div>The Tar Sands Dragon Opera (and clown show) is a shadow and marionette puppet show of both absurd and understated proportions which will tour in communities along Line 9, from Sarnia ON to Sherbrooke QC from February 1st - 28th, 2014.</div>
<div>A fairytale of sorts, our show will feature the cardboard clownery of a bewildered puppet population and the operatics of the inky-black shadows that lurk wherever There Be Dragons. Accordion playing, and song and dance will lighten the necessarily inky mood. </div>
<div>What we learn along the way we will incorporate into our show as we go. We will also document where appropriate by making short radio pieces that will then be broadcast on partnering community radio stations. <br></div><div>
<b>WHEN:</b></div><div>Feb. 1 - 28th, 2014. The show is approximately 45 minutes long. <b>We will likely be in the Grand River area Feb. 3rd - 5th. </b></div><div><b>WHERE:</b></div><div>In communities along Line 9, from Sarnia ON to Sherbrooke QC. We will veer North, South, East, and West, but will tour primarily along Line 9. </div>
<div><b>WHY: </b></div><div>We are bewildered and overwhelmed by this convoluted moment in Canadian and world history which sees seemingly unquestioned expansion of the Tar Sands industry in spite of urgent cries from the international community to decrease carbon emissions, and in spite of the mounting concerns of the people who stand to be deeply affected both by successful Tar Sands expansion, as well as by failures such as pipeline leaks and spills. In an effort to pick our way through our bewilderment, we turn to storytelling by way of puppet theatre.</div>
<div><b>The Tar Sands Dragon Opera hopes to:</b></div><div><br></div><div> <span style="font-size:large;">I.</span> Create puppet theatre which bears witness to the current moment in the communities along Line 9, and perhaps (we bite our lip here with anticipation) occasionally succeeds to offer ephemeral, effervescent and fleeting moments of collective re-imagining of the World Order</div>
<div><span style="font-size:large;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size:large;">II.</span> Create spaces for the gathering of bodies which, once gathered, might then expand and refine the discussion in our communities about the expansion of the Tar Sands industry and the consequent reversal of Enbridge's Line 9.</div>
<div><span style="font-size:large;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size:large;">III. </span>Learn from the communities in which we perform by engaging artists, community leaders and organizers to share and perform with us, by meeting members of the communities we perform for, and by carrying out short radio interviews when appropriate. To weave what we learn into our puppet show as we go</div>
<div><span style="font-size:large;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-size:large;">IV. </span>To document our journey through our puppetry, our website, and through short radio interviews</div><div><b>OUR SPACE NEEDS:</b></div>
<div>Our show is a small table-top puppet show, so we need a <b>minimum playing space of 7' by 11</b>'. </div><div>We will need a power source and the capability of darkness for shadow puppetry. Otherwise, we can do <b>living rooms, theatres, coffee shops, yoga studios, schools, etc.</b></div>
<div><b>FOR WHO:</b></div><div>Our puppet show is geared to humanfolk of all ages. It is not specifically geared toward children, though we know they are sure to enjoy it!</div><div><b>It will be funded exclusively by donations.</b></div>
<div><b>OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:</b></div><div>We also offer puppet and spectacle-making workshops for the community and its local schools. The workshop will be donation-based and can be anywhere from a few hours to several days. We will explore spectacle-making through puppetry incorporating our scrappy puppet storytelling style. Experiments with tiny and junk music-making machines and our voices will be a crucial element to the workshop. We would love to facilitate a workshop in your community! <div><font color="#000000">We tour in bohemian fashion: we will perform wherever we are invited, we ask our hosts to house, or help us organize housing, and to eat with us. <b>We do not have a budget for venue rental, so we do not perform in venues that require rental fees</b>.
