<br><b>Right now, a series of underground oil blowouts are happening at a tar sands operation in Alberta.</b> The spills have been going on for at least 6 weeks with no end in sight, and have already killed beavers, birds and ducks. Over 4,500 barrels of oil have been recovered in addition to 3 million litres of contaminated water laden with hydrocarbons.<br><br>Even though industry doesn’t seem to understand how to cap these spills, it is planning to massively expand this kind of in situ tar sands development.
