<FONT FACE="Calibri, Verdana, Helvetica, Arial"><SPAN STYLE='font-size:11pt'>On Wednesday, GREN submitted our comments on the proposed Source Water Protection Plan. The Source Water Protection Plans, which are being developed throughout the province, are a requirement that the provincial government set up to avoid future Walkerton tragedies. <BR>

Our comments on the Grand River Plan were divided into three main topics:<BR>

A. The introduction to the report acknowledges the need “to protect current and future sources of drinking water”, yet the Plan fails to assess additional drinking water sources that may be needed by the community;<BR>

B. The Plan falls short on assessing future threats, new threats or escalated threats that would necessitate additional sources of drinking water; and<BR>

C. Some recommendations are inadequate to protect drinking water resources due to weak language.<BR>
