We would like to add strength to our letter by including the names of groups and organizations in our community that share our concerns and support our request for such a review/reassessment of the bylaw -- would your group be willing to lend support to this issue by being listed in our letter as supporting organization?

We welcome your feedback before we sent the letter to the municipal councils which we would like to do by April 18th -- when the City of Waterloo has a council meeting on the sidewalk snowclearing issue -- or as soon as possible after that date.

If you know of any other groups not on our list that might be potential supporters of this initiative please let us know.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Thank you,

The Pedestrian Charter Steering Committee

*** IMPORTANT RELATED NOTE: If you are interested in the snowclearing issue, we encourage you to register as a delegation to speak at the City of Waterloo council meeting on April 18th (agenda starts at 6:30 pm) where a staff report regarding snowclearing in the City of Waterloo will be brought forward to council through the Draft Transportation Master Plan. We'd like to highlight Section 17 (page 84-85) of the June 2010 City of Waterloo Draft Transportation Master Plan (please see attached) which included the rationale and a number of recommendations for the enhancement of "Sidewalk Maintenance (Winter Control)."

This Master Plan Report was presented to Council for information. The next draft of the report won't be available to the public until April 15th, so some of the details may be different, but we understand from discussions with staff that recommendations will still pursue an improved sidewalk snowclearing program undertaken by the City. Please review the updated reports when they are released on the City of Waterloo website along with the council meeting agenda on April 15th and consider making a statement in support of enhanced snowclearing recommendations at the April 18th meeting.

This is an excellent opportunity to encourage the City of Waterloo council not only to reassess current by-laws, but also put a potentially more proactive plan into place! Delegations can register by calling Rose Clemens in the Clerks Dept. at 519-747-8549 (Rose.Clemens@waterloo.ca). You will have 10 minutes to speak if you register prior to 10 am on April 18th and 5 minutes to speak if you register afterward.

Pedestrian Charter Steering Committee
email | pedestriancharter@gmail.com
website | http://www.together4health.ca/workgroups/pedestrian-charter
