There are a number of associated risks
involved with this use that can have adverse impacts on well systems, aquifers and surface water features.

Recently I came across a website that offers a wide variety of safer alternative uses for sludge for uses including energy production, the creation of construction materials, asphalt roadways, cement and biochar. In my view, the more we can reduce our dependency on extracted aggregates, the better we can preserve the function of the aggregates that form our moraine systems. Many of these products are baked or processed by biodigesters so the toxicity issues are reduced. Biochar can improve marginalized soils and better retain water without the risks of harmful pathogens. This would be far
more valuable a product to produce than standard sludge fertilizers.
