[from Canada's Green Job Site, GoodWorkCanada.ca]

EMPLOYMENT /
CONTACT OPPORTUNITY

Position: Waterlution seeks Associates for its 2011
workshop season
Type: paid contract position (details below)
Organization: Waterlution - A Water Learning Experience http://www.waterlution.org
Location:
across Canada

Waterlution is seeking 10 to 15 passionate, leading
individuals based in communities across Canada to join us for our 2011 workshop
season.
- Do you have a passion for change?
- Do you have experience in
the water resource/watershed management field?

Please note: One or two
new Associates will be fully bilingual and based in Quebec. They are welcome to
submit an application in French if preferred.

What is a Waterlution
Associate?

Associates are the leaders of our keystone national program,
The Future of Water Workshop Series. Associates are the community-based
delegates of the Waterlution mission. They are the on-the-ground representatives
and workshop facilitators, working closely with the core team to design and
deliver an effective The Future of Water workshop. This workshop series brings
individuals and groups together to engage collaboratively in dialogue around a
particular water issue and/or geographic location.

Since 2005,
Waterlution has hosted 37 The Future of Water workshops in nine provinces and
two territories. We are now seeking keen, ambitious water leaders to join us for
our 2011 season and lead the discussion!

Contract Dates:

1.
Training weekend: February 4-6, 2011. (Location: Outside Toronto*)
2.
Delivery of one** two-day workshop within our 2011 regular working season
(March-November 2011)

*If selected, your costs for this weekend ---
travel, accommodation, meals --- will be covered

**Some Associates may
be eligible/interested in hosting 2 workshops. This will happen on a
case-by-case basis.

Specific Responsibilities:

* Participate in
the February 4-6, 2011 Waterlution Facilitator Training Workshop
*
Collaborate with the Waterlution core team to liaise with water-focused
organizations and stakeholders in your community
* Design and deliver a "The
Future of Water" workshop within our 2011 regular working season (Please see
time commitment, below)
* Manage budgets, timelines, relationships, and
individual needs
* Report on program outcomes and follow-up with workshop
participants
* Possibilities for further development: Waterlution is
piloting Waterlution Hubs across Canada. The Associates hired on for 2011 will
have the opportunity to work with a more experienced Waterlution Associate and
be involved in this exciting developing project. The Hub project will be
explained further at the February training, and may develop into more
opportunities for those interests.

Position Requirements:

*
Preferably 3-5 years of experience/involvement in the water resource/watershed
management sector
* A strong asset would be experience in group facilitation
and facilitation techniques (including but not limited to Open Space, World Café
processes, etc.)
* A proven commitment to sustainable community development
* Experience in multi-stakeholder dialogue and/or a network of contacts to
engage in the actual workshop or to assist with promotion
* Experience with
budgeting and monitoring costs
* Experience with event planning ("camp
counsellor-like" skills)
* Recommended: a past working relationship with
Waterlution (i.e., your participating in one of our programs)

Who would
make a good Waterlution Associate?

Waterlution Associates are
ambassadors of change. They are individuals from diverse backgrounds, but all
are passionate water stewards who believe in the Waterlution workshop model of
influencing positive systemic change through multistakeholder collaboration and
experiential learning. They are locally based, proven leaders ready to get more
deeply involved in affecting positive change.

Our Associates come from
many backgrounds and areas of professional focus. They have in common a proven
---

1. Commitment to local sustainable watershed management
2.
Interest and ability in facilitating group dialogue
3. Strong networks and
water-related working relationships in their region, and 3. potential for
further leadership development and continued work with Waterlution

Most
of our Associates take on this role as a part-time contract that compliments
their current work and/or they are students or "free agents" that take on
several of these types of projects. Please visit our About Us page to learn
more.

Compensation:

Waterlution provides each Associate with an
initial budget to cover all workshop needs (see below). On top of this, each
Associate will be paid $2,500 to cover their workshop salary and work done pre-
and post-workshop.

* $2,000 is paid the day workshop is completed.
*
$500 is paid upon receiving the final report.
* Please note that
flight/bus/carpool allowance, accommodation, meals and training will be provided
by Waterlution at no charge to the Associate.

Workshop Budget

Each workshop has a different budget, established by the core team. Each
Associate will work with the core team members to receive the budget for their
workshop and to stay within budget. This will all be explained in detail at the
training.

Time Commitment:

As a general guideline, Waterlution
likes 4+ months prep time before a workshop is delivered. Specific time
commitment is as follows:

* A more experienced person who has skills
with events and networks will devote about 100--120 hours total, over a 4--5
month period.
* One who is learning a lot of new skills may take longer at
125--140 hours total, over a 4--5 month period (these are approximate
guidelines)

How to Apply:

Applications will be accepted until
5:00 p.m. MST, Monday, December 13, 2010. Include the following three items in
your application.

1. Cover letter (1--2 pages)

Themes you may
want to touch could include the following:

* Why would you be a great
Associate?
* What community you are based in? What
community/region/province/territory do you represent, what are the major
industries at play in this area, what pressing water issues does it face, and
what sort of networks and experience do you have in this area? What general
workshop themes do you suggest?
* What makes you an effective water
ambassador for your community?
* What makes you an effective group
facilitator?
* Are you a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis person?
* Do you
have experience working with Aboriginal communities?
* Explain what value
you see in the Waterlution workshop model, focusing on multi-stakeholder
dialogue and interdisciplinary collaboration.
* Let us know as well if you
can attend the training workshop on February 4--6, 2011 in Toronto. (If you
require a flight, you will likely need to depart the morning of Friday, February
4 and return on an evening flight Sunday night.)

2. Résumé (2 pages max)

Including relevant professional experience as well as other
interests/activities of note.

3. References

Please provide the
names, email addresses, and phone numbers of two relevant professional
