<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><STRONG>July 14th battle cries against aggregates. </STRONG></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>In the Waterloo Chronicle there was an excellent article on Wednesday where the Region of Waterloo is opposing the Province and firms such as Steed and Evans for their aggregate ambitions that threaten our municipal well head protection areas. That and more can be found online here: <A href="http://waterloomoraineact.com/aggregate.htm">http://waterloomoraineact.com/aggregate.htm</A></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I sent a letter of thanks to the Region for bringing the issue to the media and I've advised them to do three things:</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>1. Support a Waterloo Moraine Act : The MOE's review is completed, but the Environmental Commissioner's final report has yet to be released. The MOE's review was extremely limited in scope and if the city and region's show support it can still influence a positive outcome to secure this Act. The Oak Ridges Moriane Act effectlvely prohibited aggregate extraction on 50% of the lands. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>2. Expand the Greenbelt : This legislation can help prohibit aggregate extraction on sensitive lands.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>3. Support an Anti Slapp law for Ontario. This applies to OMB processes too. By doing this it will give municipalities more power to avoid threats of costs by developers and aggregate interests. 64 municipalities have already signed on to support this.
