Could this be the
announcement we've been waiting over a year for?

Tomorrow at 9am in the lobby of the Region of Waterloo Administration Building
(150 Frederick Street, Kitchener), the Honourable Kathleen Wynne (Ontario
Minister of Transportation) will be joined by John Milloy (Kitchener-Centre
MPP), Leeanna Pendergast (Kitchener-Conestoga MPP), and Ken Seiling (Waterloo
Regional Chair) for a major announcement about public transit in Waterloo
Region.

A year ago, Regional Council approved the $790-million plan for light rail
transit in Kitchener and Waterloo, and adapted bus rapid transit in Cambridge.
While the federal government immediately announced an initial commitment of
$160-million in funding, the province has so far been silent on its funding
decision.

In 2007, the provincial government promised to fund 2/3 of the rapid transit
initiative, with repeated assurances since then that the promise would be kept.
However, with the deficit and sudden announcement of $4-billion in
Toronto’s transit plans being delayed, many in the region have been left
worrying about whether the province would keep its promise.

Tomorrow seems to be the day we've all been waiting for. Will light rail go
from proposal to reality? We’ll find out then! Hope to see you there!
