Region is participating in Jane's Walk 2010, which takes place on May 1 and 2.
You are receiving this email because I'm hoping you may be interested in
leading a walking tour or maybe you know of someone who is.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>Jane’s Walk
is a <b>free</b> walking tour, which is led by and for anyone interested in
discussing or listening to stories about something in their city, neighbourhood
or hangouts, etc. Walks are expected to take place in more than 20 cities
across Canada this year. The central theme around Jane’s Walk is based on Jane
Jacobs’ idea that, to properly plan our communities, we must learn about how
they work by walking around in them. Past tours have been led by grade 6
students, guerrilla gardeners, urban planners, university students, professors,
social historians, activists and former city mayors. Tour or stop themes are
only limited to your imagination and could include general culture or history,
reurbanization, energy use, conservation, transportation, hangouts and
shortcuts, queer history, sidewalks, homelessness, art, etc.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

celebration of Jane Jacobs' legacy. Sponsored by The Centre for City Ecology
across North America, the event combines the simple act of walking with
personal observations, urban history and local lore as a means of knitting
people together into strong and resourceful communities. Jane’s Walk aids in
the socially desirable goal of getting people out of their cars and onto the
sidewalks for the basic tasks of daily life, shopping, schools, and work.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

will be the second year that Waterloo Region participates in Jane’s Walk. For
the first annual Waterloo Region Jane’s Walk in 2009, eight neighbourhood walks
were organized and more than 100 people participated across the region.
Nationally, 315 neighbourhoods were explored by more than 10,000 people during
last year’s Jane’s Walk. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
