<DIV>Quotes on the Merger of Cities.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Dear Ministers, respective council members, </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Waterloo is going to post a ballot question in this year's election to see if public support is there to support dialogue on the advantages and disadvantages of a possible merger of the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>In light of this topic I would like to provide everyone with quotes provided by Premier Dalton McGuinty and John Gerretsen in regards to the topics of amalgamation, democracy and referenda. Please see attachments for details. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Kitchener and Waterloo are to very distinct communities located by the second largest food belt in Ontario. Our area has geological and hydrological constraints. To build a mega city in this area is illogical and a poor economic choice for our nation. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The Waterloo Moraine is made up of a unique sediment composition created by ancient glaciers thousands of years ago. By exploiting the aggregates we can contaminate aquifers, disrupt flow and flow rates and adversely impact area wells and the recharge for the Grand River and Lake Erie. It can disrupt flow of water to agricultural areas and lead to flooding and drought. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>We must take measures to protect the water to provide for the community that we have and to support our agricultural industries for generations to come. We must assess the economic worth of this natural capital resource before we simply squander it for a short sighted vision of a big city dependent on a pipeline to Erie. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Please support the formation of a Waterloo <SPAN>Moriane</SPAN> Protection Act. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Thank you kindly for your time.</DIV>
