<DIV>Below is the letter I've sent to the MNR, the City and Regional Officials regarding data that indicates the presence of mole salamanders (Including JEFFERSONS) in the headwaters of creek systems, not just vernal ponds and the larvae can co-exist with small varieties of fish. </DIV>

<DIV>Benthic studies in creek systems for salamanders and their larvae are absolutely needed.</DIV>

<DIV>Dear Minister Cansfield, Mr. Cornelisse, City and Regional and GRCA staff</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Please view the correspondence in the attachments along with supporting information regarding data indicating that Mole salamanders including Jefferson Salamanders may be found in primary headwater streams and that they are a keystone species on the health of creek systems. This goes beyond the common belief that these creatures only require vernal pond habitats or fishless pools of water to survive.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>In light of these findings I would like to request a stop action and review of planned proposals in the vacinity of headwater areas where Jeffersons have been identified and confirmed in Waterloo Region such as Hidden Valley and Doon South in Kitchener as well as the Owen Property and the West Side Lands in Waterloo in order to secure further habitat analysis to make sure we do not interfere or disrupt potential habitats for this federally protected species. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Jefferson Hybrids were confirmed in ESPA 17 in page 35 of this report:</DIV>

<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>No DNA studies took place to verify if they were "true" jeffersons or not. ESPA 17 is in close proximity to ESPA 19. Yellow Spotted Salamanders were confirmed in ESPA 19 by MNR Staff during the West Side Lands OMB appeal process. The Laurel Creek Watershed Study notes all four varieties of the Jefferson Complex in this area.</DIV>
