Here’s the latest:
1) Yet Another Ford Scandal - More Ford government top staffers have been accused of trying to sell access to developers and getting lands fast-tracked for development approval. The interesting twist this time is that it is developers themselves raising the concerns complaining that they didn’t get the promised approvals and “lobbying services” they were owed and had paid for:

Most interestingly, Amir Remtulla of Amir Remtulla Inc and 2680217 Ontario Inc, and 13137139 Ontario Inc. who is one of the developers suing Ryan Amato and Shiv Raj now because they didn’t deliver the goods they promised to him apparently was one of the people who was trying to force the urban boundary expansions in Waterloo Region that the provincial government did force on us last year:
https://www.vmcdn.ca/files/trillium/files/jsc5.pdf
Action Required - We need to speak up and demand better of government. Too many decisions like Ontario Place, the Science Centre, the Wilmot Land Assembly, the Greenbelt scandal, the forced boundary expansions in Waterloo Region and elsewhere have no transparency, no data or rationale, no proper public processes and too many unanswered questions such as how were all these lands chosen or decisions made against the greater public good.
2) Absurd Wilmot Mega-Industrial Land Assembly Continues To Be Headline Election News - The very concerning Wilmot mega-industrial site that still hasn’t had a single public meeting or study released, yet stands to destroy so much in our communities has dominated local election events. Leader of the Official Opposition and the NDP Marit Stiles launched her election campaign last week here on the farms in Wilmot and it has continued to garner media attention:

MPP Catherine Fife released an excellent video of the Wilmot event - https://x.com/wilmot_can/status/1886830903986675824?s=61
Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie Addresses Questions - Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie came out with strong concerns about the Wilmot Land Assembly ironically at a KW Chamber Of Commerce Event - one of the only vocal supporters for the very concerning mega-development. Crombie vowed to cancel the fiasco and restart the process with proper planning and transparency:

It’s good to see that the Wilmot questions were the headline story and lead over all of Monday's tariff threats and other Trump issues.

Doug Ford Addresses Media Questions - Premier Doug Ford also faced reporters questions about the very concerning Wilmot situation when he was in Waterloo on Thursday:

https://kitchener.citynews.ca/2025/02/06/doug-ford-announces-aid-for-tradesman-in-waterloo-accepts-endorsement-from-union/
Action Required - The provincial election is one of our best opportunities to call out this misguided provincial scheme and see it cancelled or relocated to an area with far less negative impacts. Keep speaking up and demanding a better future for our communities. Ensure that candidates know that you won’t vote for anyone supporting this absurd land assembly.
3) WilmotCAN Video and Town Hall Meeting Thursday, Feb 13th - The second part of mini-documentary series on the Wilmot Land Grab that was just released last week by the Wilmot Civic Action Network (WilmotCAN) has already garnered almost 20,000 views across various media. Check it out at:

5) Provincial Election Update - Doug Ford has timed this election hoping to maximize his odds of re-election. A winter election prevents many voters from voting however, help to ensure the greatest possible turnout so that everyone can have their voice heard by voting early at advance polls, by special ballot, or by mail - which is surprisingly fast and easy. Every vote matters. Learn more at:

Conservative Candidates Hiding? - Progressive Conservative Party Campaign Staff have stated that it is “against party policy” for their candidates to participate in public meetings during the election. It is an insult to constituents that their Conservative MPP’s won’t appear at events and be accountable for their many questionable decisions over the past six years. Speak up and let it be known that democracy involves participation. Ensure that candidates who hide from constituents are not elected:

6) Election Debates In The Grand River Watershed Area - Plan to attend upcoming events:
Kitchener-Conestoga Election Debate - Thursday, February 20th at 7:00pm an all-candidates debate (if Conservative MPP Mike Harris Jr. breaks party rules and shows up) for Kitchener-Conestoga at the Wilmot Rod & Gun Club. Details are as follows and in the poster below in Appendix D):

Location: Wilmot Rod & Gun Club, 2607 Bleams Road just three minutes from Baden
Wellington-Halton Hills - While two debates were planned for Wellington-Halton Hills, they have both been cancelled. Both the Canadian Federation of University Women Georgetown and the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce had arranged for debates but have cancelled their events after PC Party candidate Joseph Racinsky declined the groups' invitations. The Chamber of Commerce will now host a "meet and greet". You can read more about it below:

Date: Tuesday, February 11th from 7 to 8:30pm
Location: Italian Canadian Club; 135 Ferguson Street, Guelph
Action Required - Attend local debates, vote early or by mail, and help get out the vote.
7) Election Help Needed - There are several parties in ridings in the Grand River Watershed that are eagerly looking for volunteers to help with campaigns where there is a good chance of electing candidates who are going to be far more progressive and offer policies more in the best public interest than what we have seen from the provincial Conservative government. Please reach out to parties including the Green Party in Wellington-Halton Hills, the Liberal Party in Cambridge, and the NDP Party in several area rural ridings where there is a particularly good chance of change. In Brantford-Brant it looks like NDP candidate Harvey Bischof has the best chance to win with co-operation. Helping by making phone calls, door knocking, getting people to the polls, and other simple activities could make all the difference in close races. Please do what you can over the next couple of weeks to get better electoral outcomes:

Given that more than 40% of our carbon footprint comes from buildings and design of our communities, making significant improvements will be essential in addressing climate change. These standards have been years in the making and could help influence energy use, building construction, new EV adoption, tree planing, and water efficiency.
