Excellent e-mail and points Lulu about the importance of speaking up about Bill 185 that is about to remove Regional Planning Authority, our ability and rights to appeal to the OMB/OLT, and so many other concerning things.

We have only until May 10th to send comments to the ERO and our elected officials. Please be sure to speak-up and watch for more updates later this week to learn more.

Cheers,
Kevin.

As a delegate who won many concessions via the OMB regarding OMB case PL071044 and the appeals regarding Mount Nemo, Quarries in Rockway, Flamborough, the Melancthon Mega quarry, Tiny Township etc. I saw how concerned citizens were the last line of defence to protect critical water supplies and endangered species. For a very long time developers like Rudy Bratty used their own EA data to approve development on their lands. Conflict of interest is rampant.

They downplay the high water levels to downgrade the appearance of risk often taking data from drought periods. There is little regard for sound science. I saw oral testing for salamanders which makes no sense because they breathe through their skin. I have seen other testing methods kill specimens ie: egg mass studied of endangered species like Jefferson Salamanders simply to confirm their presence.

In the case of the Melancthon Mega quarry, the hydrology data used was from the 1940’s long before the community was built up. I as a concerned citizen, raised that matter up. It should have been addressed earlier by municipal staff or provincial agencies. We need reasonable test times and data made mandatory.

This has been a repeating issue in Waterloo Region and it has to stop.

Make it an indictable offense so police can be called and arrests issued because currently our tribunals lack teeth. There is no enforcement for violating the conditions of the ruling and that is unreasonable and dangerous for communities. If the tribunal makes a ruling, enforce it.
