[All] Hallman Pit Application - Wilmot Township

I heard Farnan interviewed on Kitchener CBC this morning. He mentioned that the LPAT hearing starts tomorrow. I'd like to go picket somewhere, but it's a virtual meeting. Is Paul Britton connected to this sorry episode? Does the developer have a local address? Any suggestions for a visible relevant location?

Sometimes a single opponent can be deemed newsworthy. Bill Gates once came to give an address at the University of Waterloo. There was tremendous hoopla from the administration about it and students went wild as if he was an IT rockstar. There was a lineup of probably a thousand students to get in to the Gates love-in. Coincidentally right then I got an email from Amnesty that Microsoft was colluding with the Chinese government to set up their new internet secret police surveillance system. I ran and made about 100 copies of the Amnesty announcement and started working the lineup, asking the students to confront Gates aboout it.. CTV was there,, interviewed me, and the interview was carried on their national news. It caused a good bit of a stink.

I welcome any stinky suggestions you might have.

Thanks, Greg Michalenko gcmichal at uwaterloo.ca

Subject: [All] Hallman Pit Application - Wilmot Township

Good evening GREN Folks,

Below is an urgent appeal from the Citizens for Safe Ground Water, the Nith Valley Ecoboosters, and other Wilmot Township Environmental/Community Groups:

As you may have heard the new Wilmot Mayor and five new Wilmot Councillors have abruptly reversed course and with no public information or public meetings have changed Township opposition to this aggregrate pit to Township support for the application.

An emergency community meeting was held Feb. 26th after this group learned that Wilmot Township will no longer be supporting their opposition to the Hallman Pit at the Ontario Land Tribunal. Here's some actions you can take to support CSGW.

  * Delegate to Wilmot Council on March 6th at 7 p.m. Register by March 1st at https://forms.wilmot.ca/Clerks/Delegation-Request-Form (Note early registration is needed for this meeting)
  * Contact your Ward Councillor and Mayor - Contact info is on the Wilmot Township website
  * Attend the March 6th Council meeting in person or on line. CSGW will email a link.
  * Sign up for CSGW emails https://www.safeh2o.ca/ (go to "Take Action")

Here's a link with a media report on the Feb. 26th meeting. Action Alert!

We need all hands on deck to show the new Wilmot Council that their community wants to Stop the Hallman Pit!
