Dear Louisette,
New research from the University of Waterloo has identified that a concerning amount of microplastics are making their way into the Grand River, which could have significant consequences for the health of the river. Members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy at Six Nations are increasingly concerned about how plastic pollution impacts the health of the river and all those who depend on it: the plants, animals, and the Haudenosaunee people themselves.
Join us Monday September 18 from 5 PM to 8PM at The Centre for International Governance Innovation, Waterloo, ON or online via Zoom, for an important conversation about the future of the Grand River between university researchers, Haudenausaunee community members and environmental advocates.
Event Details:
Date: Monday September 18
Time:
In-person: Doors open at 5 pm. Seed bomb-making workshop and a light dinner will be served.
Online and in-person: Panel with livestream from 6:45 pm to 8 pm.
Location: This is a hybrid event. You’re invited to join by Zoom or in person at: The Centre for International Governance Innovation, 67 Erb St. W, Waterloo, ON N2L 6C2
$15 per person for in person (receive tax receipt)* and $10 per person for virtual (receive tax receipt)*

At this dynamic and hybrid event, you will learn about what happens to plastic in the environment, the latest research on microplastics, and efforts by members of Six Nations to protect the Tract and the Grand River. We will also discuss what actions are needed to hold settler governments accountable to end plastic pollution. Activities and a light dinner will precede the panel discussion for people able to attend in person.
Members of Six Nations, students, and community members are encouraged to attend. If ticket prices pose a barrier to attend, please contact us at engagement at environmentaldefence.ca
