Look what you learn when you start nosing around. I had never heard of 
Ontario's Ring of Fire mining site.

I've been following up on Greg M's idea of "food or fuel" and curious 
whether we still subsidize ethanol production made from ON seed corn. 
Was checking out the ON gov't 2022 budget and found this:

projectsinOctober2021.Inaddition,inApril2022,MartenFallsFirstNationandWebequieFirst
NationannouncedthattheywillbesubmittingaTermsofReferencefortheproposedNorthern
RoadLinkEnvironmentalAssessment.Theproposedroadisthefinalpieceofcriticalroad
infrastructureneededtoensurereliable,all‐seasonroadaccesstopotentialminingsitesintheRing
ofFireandconnectbothFirstNationcommunitiestoOntario’shighwaynetwork.Theprovincial
governmentwillcontinuetoworkwiththefederalgovernmenttocoordinatetheimpact
assessmentrequirementsfortheseprojects.


Geopoliticalforcesarefuelingasurgingdemandforreliableandresponsiblysourcedcritical
minerals,makingthisastrategicimperativeforCanada.TheRingofFirewillbringsignificant
economic,socialandcommunitybenefitstotheentirenation,andthishistoricprojectneedsafull
federalpartner.ThisiswhyOntariowillcontinuetocallontheGovernmentofCanadatostepup
andmatchOntario’sfundingcommitmentstogettingtheroadtotheRingofFirebuilt.
