Corrected date for Visualization Workshop!
We had the wrong date in our original email... please accept our apology. The correct date is highlighted below.
First, Divest Waterloo has joined with other grassroots groups across Waterloo Region to urge our regional municipalities to set aggressive targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the next 10 years. 50 by 2030 Waterloo Region (50x30WR) builds on the 2019 declaration of a climate emergency by calling on the Region of Waterloo to commit to a 10-year target of 50% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction below 2010 levels by 2030 ("50by30"), leading the just transition necessary for a more equitable, safe climate future. This target is widely recognized as an essential milestone to keep global warming below the critical threshold of 1.5 oC. Please visit the 50x30WR site for more information about the campaign and how you can get involved; and please support this important initiative by signing our petition to our Regional government.
Join our upcoming visualization workshop!
On the afternoon of Saturday, November 28th BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design is partnering with 50x30WR to host a 2-hour online visualization workshop. Residents throughout the region are invited to join Bridge members and local elected officials to collectively imagine the changes we hope to see in our region to help us all move toward a more climate-friendly, socially just community.
You will need to register for this event here. When registering, you will be asked to please select your top two preferred municipalities within Waterloo Region for which you would like to create visualizations. This will support our efforts in advance of the event to assign everyone to a place-based group for the breakouts. There are a limited number of spaces for this online event, so please register today; please share this within your circle to help ensure that we have broad representation for this initiative.
Thanks in advance for your support with getting word out.
Second, as the local chapter of Faith & the Common Good (FCG), Divest Waterloo is excited to announce the launch of the GreenFaith International Network, bringing together organizations from across 14 countries to create a global, grassroots, multi-faith movement for climate action. In a global series of multi-faith TEDx events on November 17 & 18, FCG and its global partners will kick off mobilizing Sacred People, Sacred Earth, a bold, worldwide set of demands and plans in preparation for the biggest ever faith-based, grassroots, global day of action on March 11 where we will sound the alarm for climate justice. This is part of Countdown – a special TEDx platform for climate action.
You can RSVP for the North American call on Tuesday, November 17 at 8:30pm ET or RSVP to reserve a spot for the TEDx in another region of the world.
Please join us and please extend this invitation to your networks. Together we can build an unstoppable, global, grassroots, multi-faith movement.
Wishing you all well, and hoping that you stay safe.
Thank you for your ongoing support for Divest Waterloo and for your part in our collective action to raise awareness and engage our community on issues related to climate change, our pursuit of a low carbon economy, and our movement towards a just and sustainable future. We hope that you and your loved ones are well, and look forward to a time when we can gather again.
